Volunteers are providing a variety of services including organization and translation at medical and administrative appointments as well as the supply of furniture and essential needs. On 10/8, Juliia was administered drugs she is allergic to by a hospital resulting in Juliia going into anaphylactic shock. On 10/12, Francesco and Adam took Oleksii (Juliia’s husband) to play ice hockey (while Juliia watched) and dinner afterwards. On 10/15, Nathan delivered additional furniture to Juliia and Oleksii’s apartment. Juliia and Oleksii are still not receiving their social benefits because Juliia cannot attend inflexible administrative meetings while she is in the hospital. On 10/17, Adam accompanied Juliia and Oleksii to the notary and obtained power of attorney for Oleksii, so that Juliia does not have to attend her administrative meetings. On 10/28, Michael attended a doctor’s appointment with Juliia and the ENT ambulance at Ottakring Klink, however, the Ottakrink Klinik was unable to help and has forwarded the case (back to) the Landstrasse Klinik. The progress on improving Juliia’s medical situation is slow; as of 10/31, Juliia has not received medical treatment or pain killers for her blow eardrum, which Juliia states to be an 8 on the 10 pain scale and prevents her from sleeping. Michael and Oleg have organized a private doctor to oversee Juliia’s medical case to improve the timeliness of Juliia’s medical treatment (the same Russian speaking doctor who oversaw Dima’s case). Juliia has open heart surgery scheduled for December which is delaying the treatment of Jullia’s other medical needs.
