The family was relocated to Vienna under an Austrian government program to support civilian amputees and burn victims. VM4U would like to help Bohdan to return to sport with kids is own age as soon as possible. Before that can happen, Bogdan will need to obtain a sports prosthetic (aka. Performance prosthetic). The hospital delivers 12-15 babies per month with about half requiring surgery. This project is still in need of funding.

6/30 DIABETIC SUPPLY PROJECT UPDATE

Oleg, Project Manager, is working to provide diabetic orphans in Ukraine with glucose monitors and education on modern diabetes management. Unfortunately, VM4U has been informed by the Ukrainian government that there is no centralized information to help identify the orphans with diabetes in Ukraine. Separately, Pascal, head of Kleine Herzen and director of a displaced Ukrainian orphanage in Burgenland, Austria (which has a 2 year old with diabetes), was unsuccessful in leveraging her contacts to help connect Oleg to the diabetic orphans. The project will be refused on using volunteer networks to identify at-risk kids in Ukraine. Oleg encountered a second obstacle when local medical suppliers, Dexcom and Abbot, declined to sell diabetic supplies to VM4U. Oleg overcame this obstacle by partnering with Sarah from Insulin for Life Austria and procurement is underway.

The van raised for UAID-Direct with support from VM4U and sponsorship from the Tullman Family Office has been out of service for May and most of June. An unresolved maintenance issue has led the van to 2 repair shops in the UK and 2 more in Kyiv, including the official Ford mechanic. Basically the check engine light is on and no one can figure out why; the computer diagnostic is wrong, and the van is stuck in ‘limp home’ mode limiting the acceleration and top speed to 112 km/hr. For now, UAID-Direct will continue to drive the van until a better solution appears.

The Hope Shelter is the first point of contact in the EU for refugees fleeing these areas.
