2/1 to 2/28 ST. NICHOLAS PROJECT UPDATE
Pippa, Project Manager, continues to coordinate the final deliveries of gifts and essentials from many organizations in Austria and Germany to the displaced orphanages in our network, both in Austria and Ukraine. On 2/28, gifts raised by Kleine Herzen were picked up by VM4U in Vienna and will be delivered to Save Ukraine in March. No VM4U donations are used to buy gifts; VM4U donations are used for diesel and delivery costs.
2/1 to 2/28 DORMATORIES SUPPORT PROGRAM
VM4U supports the organizations operating the government sponsored dormitories for refugees in Vienna. VM4U continues to support Hostel Huttledorf (Vienna refugee center operated by Volkshilfe) to transport and relocate refugees with limited mobility (elderly, sick, blind, disabled, etc.). In January and February, VM4U similarly supported Hotel de France (dormitory operated by Samariterbund).
2/1 to 2/28 HOTEL DE FRANCE SUPPORT PROJECT UPDATE
Hotel de France (government sponsored dormitory operated by Samariterbund) was permanently closed on February 28 and its residents reassigned to new government sponsored accommodations. However, most of the residents had no means to move their person possessions and many of the residents have limited mobility. VM4U spent January and February relocating approximately 100 refugees, together with the personal belongings, to their new accommodations in and around Vienna using the VM4U van.
2/1 to 2/28 TACMED UKRAINE DIESEL SUPPORT PROJECT UPDATE
The Tullman Family Office, with 501c3 support from Elevate Ukraine, continues their support of diesel for TacMed Ukraine ambulances through April 2025. VM4U performs third-part donation verification using a system of real-time reporting and fuel card accounting. In February, TacMed Ukraine transported 302 patients using 4 ambulances and 1 bus, 7 medics, and 5 drivers. No VM4U donations were used.
2/1 to 2/28 MUSIC PROGRAM UPDATE
Nadiia, Music Program Manager and Instructor, continues to return refugee children to their music training. The program has 4 instructors for 9 children, thanks to volunteer instructors Joel (Saxophone), Emin (Piano), Nadiia (Elementary music), and Rosa (Guitar). We bid Instructor Emin a thankful farewell as he is moving abroad and welcome Anna who will continue the piano instruction for Emin’s students. The music program is a partnership with Kimu Wien (@kimu_wien) and Domivka. VM4U donations are used for instrument maintenance, instrument rental, and instruction materials.
2/1 to 2/28 VAN PROGRAM UPDATE
Nathan, Van Program Manager, continues to utilize the VM4U van to circulate donations, relocate refugees, support partner volunteer organizations, and deliver donated furniture in Vienna as well as deliver medical supplies and other aid to Ukraine. VM4U donations are used for fuel and maintenance.
2/1 to 2/28 OPERATION CHANGE VAN SUPPLY AND REPAIR PROJECTS UPDATE
In February, Operation Change transported 65 tons of aid from Sweden to Ukraine. BFF and Big Sprint vans performed last mile deliveries racking up 4,759 mi (7,659 km) and 1,570 mi (2,527 km), respectively, in February (noting Big Sprint had some maintenance down time).
2/3, 2/4, 2/6, 2/7, 2/10, 2/11, 2/12, 2/15, 2/18, 2/20, 2/23, 2/27, 2/28 VAN MISSIONS – HOTEL DE FRANCE SUPPORT PROJECT
Nathan, John, Jesse, and Adam, using the VM4U van and personal vehicles, relocated refugees and their personal belongings from Hotel de France to their new government sponsored accommodations. VM4U donations were used for van diesel.
2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 2/24 FOOTBALL PROGRAM TRAINING UPDATE
Coach Oleksandr, Football Program Manager, and Coach Sergii continue to host football training for children ages 6-11 on Monday nights from 17:30-19:00 in cooperation with Domivka. During winter, the training occurs at an indoor facility which is free of charge.
2/4 TEAM VIENNA SUPPORT PROGRAM UPDATE
VM4U continues to support our partner organizations in Vienna, Poland, and Ukraine. VM4U has an ongoing project with TacMed Ukraine and programs with Domivka and The Feel Good Store. VM4U continues to provide local support to YOUkraine, Matusya, Ptashka Art Project, Domivka, The Feel Good Store, Hela Flanko, Kleine Herzen, UkrAID, and Unlimited Democracy. VM4U performed van missions circulating aid in Vienna for Matusya on 2/4 and Kleine Herzen on 2/28.
2/4 VAN MISSION – MATUSYA SUPPORT
Nathan and Adam, using the VM4U van, delivered donated diapers, baby formula, and wipes to Matusya, childrens aid collection and distribution center in Vienna. The aid was raised by the VM4U Amazon link on the VM4U website and donated anonymously. VM4U donations were used for van diesel.
2/6 YANA SUPPORT CASE
Yana is a refugee who was relocated to a government sponsored apartment following the closure of Hotel de France (government sponsored dormitory operated by Samariterbund). However, Yana’s new apartment had 6 support beams holding up the kitchen ceiling. Irina, VM4U Refugee Welfare Program Manager, with support from Ania and Nathan, helped Yana to request a new apartment through Funds Socials Wien (FSW) and Nathan, using the VM4U van, relocated Yana’s personal belongings to her new apartment. VM4U donations were used for van diesel.
2/11 MUSIC PROGRAM UPDATE
Uliana, a student of Joel, won first place in the Prima la musica competition (Regional Austrian Youth competition) for solo saxophone and will be competing nationally this summer.
2/13, 2/24 FURNISHINGS PROGRAM UPDATE
Nathan, Furnishings Program Manager, continues to work with Olga, The Feel Good Store, to transfer furniture and appliances directly from donors to refugees on a regular basis using the VM4U van and Nathan’s van. The furnishings team, better known as the VM4U Crew, includes Pasha, Artem, Arkady, Anatolii, Jake, Jesse, Coach Oleksandr, Adam, Amir, and others, had 2 days of furniture deliveries this month. VM4U donations are used for van fuel.
2/17 JULIA SUPPORT CASE UPDATE
Julia is a T1 diabetic on dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant. Julia has many secondary serious medical complications. On 2/17, Julia successfully underwent a heart bypass surgery and is recovering well.
2/27 OLHA SUPPORT CASE
Oleg, Case Manager, is supporting Olha with support from Dr. Lilliana, Dr. Uliana, and Roxy. Olha came immediately to Munich with her two children after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The tumor was surgically removed but unfortunately returned. Olha has sadly be diagnosed with 2 months to live. The biological father of the children has been able to come to Munich.
2/28 VAN MISSION – ST. NICHOLAS PROJECT
Nathan, using the VM4U van, collected children’s gifts raised by Kleine Herzen in Vienna for later delivery to Ukraine. VM4U donations were used for van diesel.
